THE LAST of THE FEW.... "The End Of An Era"

.

These photos and videos were captured on Friday 25th June 1999.

To mark 'The end of an era' Air New Zealand's generous Senior Management thoughtfully arranged a farewell celebration scenic flight around the Hauraki Gulf for all available Flight Engineer Officers, and their partners, onboard Air New Zealand's 'Classic' Boeing B747-219, ZK-NZX, prior to it being onsold to Virgin Atlantic as G-VSSS

After this nostalgic flight, they were invited to attend a most memorable social function at the Lakeside Convention Centre at Mangere to mark the final demise of the role of Flight Engineers within T.E.A.L. / Air New Zealand.

Thus ended an historic era in New Zealand's commercial aviation spanning almost 60 years.

To help evoke memories of this significant event we have uploaded three videos to YouTube that will capture for posterity this historic flight plus the social function held on 25 June 1999 to commemorate the final farewell to Air New Zealand's FLIGHT ENGINEERS

The official photos from the 25th June 1999 Flight Engineer’s Farewell Flight and Farewell Dinner taken by the Air New Zealand photographer have been made available.

Peter Allen has kindly provided us with access to the original 35mm and 120 format colour negatives.

We have now been able to convert them all into digital colour photos for our archives.

If anyone wishes to obtain a copy of any of these original photos please contact us.

The easiest way for us to share all of these photographs appeared to be via links to YouTube slide show videos.

Hence we have produced two slide show presentations and have posted them to YouTube for you to view.
